Die Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) hat einen Report veröffentlicht, wie Unternehmen mit den Benutzerdaten, bzw. wie deren Rechte und Privatsphäre, umgehen. Während man 2013 nur einen Stern in Empfang nehmen durfte, sind es seit 2014 nun jeweils fünf Sterne, so auch 2015. Die EFF lobt Apple für die Transparenz bezüglich Benutzerdaten, dem Schutz der Daten gegenüber der Regierung und der offenen Kommunikation.

Apple earns five stars in this year’s Who Has Your Back report. This is Apple’s fifth year in the report, and it has adopted every best practice we’ve identified as part of this report. We commend Apple for its strong stance regarding user rights, transparency, and privacy.

Nicht ganz so optimistisch ist Edward Snowden. Zwar hat er erst kürzlich Apple gelobt, dass Apple ein Pionier in Sachen Datenschutz sei, die aktuelle Ausschlachtung bezüglich der sicheren Privatsphäre muss am Ende aber mehr als nur ein Verkaufsargument für Tim Cook sein:

I think in the current situation, it doesn’t matter if he’s being honest or dishonest. What really matters is that he’s obviously got a commercial incentive to differentiate himself from competitors like Google. But if he does that, if he directs Apple’s business model to be different, to say „we’re not in the business of collecting and selling information. We’re in the business of creating and selling devices that are superior“, then that’s a good thing for privacy. That’s a good thing for customers.

Dann hoffen wir, dass Apple darin nicht nur eine Differenzierung gegenüber Facebook, Google und Co. sieht, sondern fest daran glaubt, dass man Daten nicht nur sammeln und „verkaufen“, sondern auch einfach nur schützen kann!
