Google+ für iPhone ist da2 min read

Apple hat nach „nur“ zwei Wochen die Google iOS App für das neue Social Network Google+ freigegeben. Lange haben die Early-Adapters auf die App gewartet um endlich das neue Netzwerk auch bequem mit dem iPhone bedienen zu können. Doch die Ernüchterung kam rasch. Ich persönlich kann Google+ gar nicht benutzen, denn die Entwickler bei Google haben die App (noch) nicht für iOS 5 vorbereitet. Somit stürzt die App ständig ab. Aber auch auf iOS 4.3.4 läuft es nicht rund. Die Google Mobile-Entwickler kommunizieren wenigstens offen und transparent über die Fehler und Entwicklungsstände. So zum Beispiel meldet Punit Soni eine ganze Liste von Dingen welche nicht oder fehlerhaft funktionieren:

• IOS5 is unsupported at this point.
• iPad/iPhone device support is coming soon.
• It doesn’t keep me logged in. Even though I had told it to. Oh, wait, now it is.
  We have not seen this issue so far. But we are going to do another round of testing on Authentication and iterate.
• I don’t see a way to upload a photo, like the Android app has. Nevermind, I found that, you have to click on the photos app where the camera icon is very small.
  Thanks for the feedback. We will take another look at our UI flows.
• It frequently freezes on me.
  We discovered an issue where the App freezes when there are posts with tons of comments on it. We have a fix for it and its coming soon.
• It has crashed twice so far. UPDATE: Six times.
  This may be related to the lack of IOS5 support. We are digging deep into other crash reports as we speak.
• No way to share.
  That is a feature we are working on for both Android and iPhone. Coming soon.

Wie nannten wir früher solche Software-Releases? Genau, ein Bananen-Produkt. Es reift erst beim Kunde! Eigentlich schade das Firmen wie Google, aber auch Apple, unter allen Umständen Software auf den Markt werfen „müssen“ ohne deren Qualität zu prüfen. Schade, aber vielleicht beeilt sich Google ja mit den Updates und vielleicht winkt Apple diese etwas schneller durch?
